Overview
You have configured Utilities > Administration > Server > Server Settings > Network Settings > Deliver Email > Retry Timing for an interval of 5, 10, and 15 minutes in Lyris LM, but notice that the 5-minute interval is skipped when a mailing is processed and messages need to be retried.
Solution
This issue occurs because the smallest interval that ListManager will process is 6 minutes.
The default Retry setting is ’30, 720’, however we recommend the following settings:
30,30,30,30,45,45,60,60,75,75,90,90,120,120,120,180,240
This corresponds to a max retry time of 24 hours, though in practice other factors such as Domain Connection Limits may occasionally result in a somewhat higher max time in queue.
- Log on to ListManager as an Administrator
- Navigate to Utilities > Administration > Server > Server Settings > Network Settings > Deliver Email
- Adjust the value for Retry timing based on the guidelines from the previous section, or your own preferences within the minimum and maximum retry limits:
- Separate multiple Retry intervals with a comma, e.g. 30,30,30
- The smallest acceptable retry interval is 6 minutes (0.1 hours)
- The largest acceptable retry interval is 1440 minutes (24 hours)
- Click the Save button
Reasons for Lowering or Raising Retry Times
-
Lowering or shortening the number of retries:
- For servers running on very old or low-powered hardware, frequent retries may reduce overall server performance or contribute to sending speed bottlenecks
- For messages with very timely information, it may be undesirable to attempt to deliver past a certain time period
-
Raising or extending the number of retries:
- For messages with lower time-sensitivity of content and higher bounce rates and/or higher spam complaints, a higher number of retries may improve delivery in throttling/deferral situations caused by ISP filters
