Perform Spam Analysis on a Mailing in ListManager

Overview

You want to perform spam analysis on a ListManager mailing. You tried getting details from the Spam Assassin website but did not find anything related to ListManager specifically. You would like to know how to perform spam analysis in ListManager.


Solution

ListManager can perform spam analysis using Spam Assassin's analyzer when you send a test message. This can help identify keywords and message features that may cause the mailing to be recognized as spam. Your message will be subjected to a number of tests and assigned a score; the lower the score, the less likely your message will be filtered as spam.

If your message fails a particular spam-detection test, Spam Assassin assigns it a certain number of points. After all of the tests are complete, your points are summed and presented as a total score. Lower scores are better—they indicate that your message has fewer traits common to junk mail. Ideally, you want to get your message close to 0 points.

Some of Spam Assassin's tests work the other way around: if you pass them, they assign your message a certain number of *negative* points. This helps reduce your overall score.

  1. Log on to ListManager as an Administrator or List Admin

  2. Navigate to Mailings > New Mailing

  3. Input the HTML, Text, and headers of your message, then set any additional mailing options you require
     
  4. Save the mailing

  5. Click the Test link for that mailing
    1. Perform spam analysis: Set this radio button to "Yes"
    2. Click OK to send the test and perform the spam analysis

After clicking OK, the first test recipient will receive an email message for each test message sent, with the final score and an explanation of how the score was reached.
