Lyris LM Discussion Forum List Visibility

Overview

You would like to configure your Lyris LM Discussion Forums so that certain lists, or forums, are not visible to non-members and prevent non-members from requesting access to the lists when clicking View All Forums. However, you want list members to be able to access the forum directly with a URL.

Solution

  1. Log on to your ListManager instance as an Administrator

  2. Navigate to Utilities > List Settings > Discussion Forum Interface > Message Reading

  3. Update the List Visibility setting:
    1. List Visibility: List is Hidden but Accessible if the List Name is Known

  4. Click Save

After changing the List Visibility setting the list is no longer visible when selecting View All Lists, but can be reached by URL.

List Visibility Options

Setting Description
List is Visible (default) The list is visible in the discussion forum interface if a user clicks "All Forums."
List is Hidden but Accessible if the List Name is Known

The list is not visible in the discussion forum interface if a user clicks "All Forums", but can be accessed directly via URL. Example of a list called "Hidden":

http://lists.example.com/read/?forum=Hidden

List is Inaccessible

The list is not accessible in the discussion forum interface by users.

NOTE:
A hidden or inaccessible mailing list does not appear in the discussion forum interface menus and does not appear in the "lists" email command.
