Overview

You have been contacted by a member or a member's email administrator to advise you that your Lyris LM site is being blocked due to SPF failures caused by a discrepancy between your Internet Host Name and the from or return-path address that your List is including with messages.

Solution

The setting in Utilities > Administration > Sites for Internet Host Name is used to generate the From and return-path addresses Lyris LM constructs and sends along with the message. If a different email address is used for bounce redirection or the default from address, then the message will fail SPF and will not reach the recipient.

For example, your Internet Host Name is subdomain.domain.com and Redirect all bounces to email address is set to recipient@domain.com. The SPF check fails because the return-path to @domain.com does not match the expected value of @subdomain.domain.com. 

Remove the Redirect Address

When Redirect all bounces to email address is blank the system will construct the return-path as bounce-messageid-memberid@subdomain.domain.com and pass the SPF check. This is the recommended setting.

1. Log on to Lyris LM as an Administrator
   
   
2. Navigate to Utilities > List Settings > Automatic Maintenance > Error Mail tab
   
   
3. Delete the value in the Redirect all bounces to email address field
   NOTE: If this field is already blank, follow the steps in the next section
   
   
4. Click Save

Reset the Default From Address

If the From address is set to "login", ListManager will construct the address as memberid@subdomain.domain.com (from the previous example) which will pass SPF. If the From address is blank, a valid address will have to be entered each time a new mailing is created.

1. Navigate to Utilities > List Settings > Web Created Content 
   
   
2. Replace the email address in the From field with "login"
   
   
3. Click Save

After ensuring that Redirect all bounces to email address is blank and the default From address is "login" new mailings that are sent will not fail SPF checks.
